The pending promises of Andhra Pradesh bifurcation Act have once again become a hot topic in the Parliament during the Monsoon session. TDP MP Rammohan Naidu has raised the issue of various promises made to AP during the state bifurcation and sought the centre’s detailed response on the status of those promises and how the Centre is going to keep them. Telangana Congress MP Komatireddy too raised questions over the pending promises of AP Bifurcation Act, 2014.

In a response to the questions of Telugu states MPs, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai stated that the Centre has mostly fulfilled the promises of AP Reorganisation Act 2014. He said the Centre has fulfilled majority of its promises whereas the other promises are in execution phase at various stages. The Centre said it put an internal deadline for completion of key promises such as establishment of infrastructure and set-up of central educational institutions.

The Union Minister of State said a budget of 106.89 crore was sanctioned last year towards setting up zone headquarters for South Coast Railway (SCoR) zone. It said 10 crore was released in FY 23-24 towards this. The Union Government also said it has allocated funds to the state for setting up of the capital city. It also said it disbursed funds to the state government towards setting up the AIIMS, IIT, Girijan University.

On the contentious issues, the Centre passed the responsibility to AP state and Telangana state. It asked both the states to settle their disputes among them amicably. The Centre said a Joint Taskforce has been constituted to look into the possibilities of fulfilling the pending promises of AP Bifurcation Act.

Talking on Kadapa Steel Plant, the centre ruled out it as it said the SAIL (Steel Authority Of India) conducted a research and submitted a report stating that Kadapa Steel Plant is not possible. This is indeed a big shock to the AP state government and the people of Kadapa.
