We are vegetarians(Not me though). My grand father used to go to ONLY veg hotels for the same reason. he thought they might mix the spoons if the hotel has veg and non-veg.

To be specific, he went to Hotel kamata, Shanbhag etc.

He is not with us. so no rude comments please.

Its not about cast thing. its about vegetarian.

it is about caste though. the preference for spoons is directly linked to caste.

I'm vegan too for 8yrs now, and I don't have a problem sharing spoons outside.

one can excuse old people as being too set in their ways and not being flexible, but it is a casteist choice.

an uncle of mine also used to behave like this.

he'd throw a fit if meat is cooked when he's around.

his kids are veggie too, but they don't have problem with feeding meat to their kids.

his choice of not eating meat came from his caste, and his notions of purity.. Not a brahmin, but still a veggie eating caste.

This entire thread is a classic example of just how unprincipled most indians are in general.

If a kamma carries his own spoon with him saying he worries if he accidently needs to eat from spoon used by other castes - entire forum will be outraged .

Most indians and upper caste people have no real principles, no guiding ethics at all. Behaviour is directed by mal formed emotions and their struggles with it.

But she didn't say she has problem with who is handling the spoon right? Issue is with the spoon. I don't eat beef and if I see someone using a beef spoon to serve me I too don't like it. It's just when you grow up with believing something is bad and you see it happen it spoils the appetite.

You bought a good example. Yes most hindus never eat beef. But why do you never see a meat eating hindu - a kamma or reddy or anyone - carrying a spoon with them because they have to eat in a muslim restaurant ?

it is never about the spoon. infact even vaishyas dont play such games and many other vegeterians worldwide. its about people and their belief some are impuee.

Sudha murthy son in law eats beef. i am pretty sure she will have no problem with spoon there.

The entire food, milk they eat comes from work of meat eating people, the internet they use, the house they live in is built by meat eating people. How dare she act like their spoons spoil her ?

Vegetarians have an aversion to meat due to not eating since they are kids and perhaps religious reasons. What’s the big deal in them avoiding it themselves.

Perhaps even our non veg parents age people will be uncomfortable if someone eats beef right beside them since they never ate beef since their childhood due to religious reasons and are uncomfortable.
