We keep hearing about northies vs southies ... I do not believe in one race/group superior to other however there are traits that make them unique.

What makes them different?

Genetically no difference at all. I met one hardcore non-brahmin tamil who was living in rajasthan since childhood. I had a hard time beleiveing he is south indian - his body language, expressions everything looked north indian. samething with marwarsi settled for generation in south. one marwari in kakinada  until he told me he was from rajasthan - i couldnt tell at all. body language, face movements completely andhra.

But culturally differences are there.

Looks wise, agree northies are light skinned (Fair) compared to south, but most of it is because of weather/temparature.

Food habits are different as well. Northies eat more wheat and south eat more rice. Again weather plays an imp role.

Appearance and Food habits are obvious. What separates them in terms of behavior?

Apart from complexion(which is questionable too, there are dark skinned north indians and fair skinned south indians) and food habits which are becoming incredibly mixed(chicken tikka masala is on every menu in Hyderabad and  biryani is on every menu in the North) I don't see many differences. India is slowly becoming a melting pot. Especially the metropolitan areas.. In 2 to 3 generations the cities will have a heavily normalized Indian culture not specific local culture..

Language is there. Ofcourse it is there among south indians also.

I am not a big fan of north - south differences. I think its more telugu vs non-telugu. Just like gujrati vs non-gujrati

Northies aren't  as good looking as South Indians.

Economically and culturally backward as well compared to us. Because they were occupied by invaders more than us. You see more western influence there. They flirt more and are not traditional on an average.

That being said, our culture is more intact because northies were fighting invaders and acted as our shield.

Just a general discussion. Did not think what I would consider north-south states.

Mana south thappa rest antha north anukuntam most of us. Maratha, Benagali andaru mana skin tone same untaru. Not the people naturally fair and a few obsessed with fairness and are successful acheiving it. Okka north states lo thappa migilina antha, even gujju gallu kooda mana skin tone close untaru. We never watch their local movies, which will give a fair insight into their plebeian folk. Ancestral allainces valla kavachu rajfut gallu kondaru turak look untaru.  Chala mandi ki valla lo superior complex untadi , no doubt about it. Valla ki lekunna mana valla lo majority  hand over cheyataniki ready ga untaru ga.

I would consider the same way. NORTH+CENTRAL+WEST = North in my consideration.
