I had similar experience with a relative so posting know..similar one shared at trackitt..

--from trackitt..

When you discourage people, they think otherwise since we are sitting here in the US and don't recommend coming here - lol. Not sure how seriously people will take advice.

By the way, nothing is happening in OCT. The Sep VB gave the preview today.

I agree. I tried doing this with a cousin of mine sometime back. I think around 2014 or so. I came to the US in 2002 as a student. This cousin is much younger than I. When i sat him down & explained the situation to him, his parents sat me down & said, why havent you returned yet? If things are so bad, why do you struggle for 15 plus years making thousands of dollars? It must be a tough life ? This is hypocritical. You are discouraging someone from studying because you couldnt get a green card ? Maybe the fault is in your stars. You think if you didnt get something, that same fate awaits our son too? Its ok. He will figure it out. For now his goal is getting a masters degree. Rest we will see later. Dont be so negative. Be happy for others. your cousin will join you soon. The conversation went sideways & I told them they were absolutely correct. I left them to their devices. Cousin came, finished Masters in 2016. He is now in backlog with a Feb 2020 PD & probably on trackitt reading this. You will probably hear the same from others. Plus many dont plan that far. Many just want to get to the US. Where that is an on-site opportunity, study or just work

Don’t give any suggestions, let them learn by making mistakes and you never know what’s their future is…

I agree one of my relative is so desperate to have kids in USA. He once tried coming to USA as student and visa got rejected due to fraudulent university. He was planning for student visa for his wife and planncome here as dependency and have kids here. I was shocked listening his plans. But I am sure they will take it wrong when you say don’t take risk. Oka one hour conversation abt his plan naaku mental ekkindi

First of all never give advice unless they ask.

If they ask, only tell them positives and negatives and let them take a decision based on that. You don’t tell them what to do.

First of all, a typical student doesn’t think beyond dollar-based salary, cars, road trips, independence and free Chex in vomerica.

Immigration and green cards are least of their concern. Their brain is not wired to think that way right from the beginning. They are around 22-24 age group when they plan to come here.

I think no body should discourage a MS aspirant. They need to experience culture here too.

Anyways, It’s funny when I hear these episodes over and over in this db.

As a matter of fact, 99.999% of the people who arrived after 2016 will never see green card through EB quota. How are these guys any different than 2023 and later PD batch. Take it easy.

Most ppl are decided already and only ask advice for validation. When you tell them what they don't want to hear, we are considered jealous.
