People learn the hard way. If your friend has to blame someone, its himself. 25 lakhs is a big amount and giving it to relative who he doesn't know much without any collateral is a big risk.

Let your friend worry about getting back his 25 lakhs and not worry about how the other guy tripled his investment. Ask him to call casually, talk nicely and say he has money needs and ask him for a time frame when he can return so that he can plan accordingly.

I once gave (he did not ask) 10 lakhs during 2006 to a friend as he was struggling to built a house in india & spoiling health. He later came to USA. After 3-4 yrs, he talked about how he bought 5 acres of mango farm for >10 lakhs and how it multiplied.

I did feel a little bad that he could have paid back early but instead chose to invest somewhere. He paid off 2013-2016 in multiple installments.

But then hez one of my best friend and I know him in and out. Nice guy. You cannot put a value on friendship. If I wanted to invest that money on lands or somewhere I could have but I did not. Even if he repaid it back early, I would not have done anything with it.

Value your friendship.

My colleagues own cousin brother told to register land in his name..to avoid taxes and all . So he purchased two plots .. one for him and his sister in law..

That guy cheated him ..never purchased plot . He paid of his debt and sent his son to dubai

Purchased a small flat

did happen to me but not that much amount though...probably 1-2 lakhs...I will not blame my parents because they were manipulated by the other party...

unfortunately, my parents didn't change their perspective and just last week my dad said to help Rs 50K to one of our relative for their medical emergency..
