One doubt on chess players

Some of the sports in india are very regional. Lot of craziness and interest only in those states.
soccer in kerela and West Bengal

weestling in haryana, punjab

badminton Ap

could be because of spl players who came from these states and inspired. And facilities, infrastructure available in these states.

What you are doing is just fine. Its stress buster. Being happy is the best medicine for good health.

Enjoy life and let kids enjoy. Kids are living in a digital world. You cannot stop that. I ask my kids to go with their friends for a walk in evenings/weekends, rather they prefer chatting with them on phone. My kid and their friends adopted a couple of cute cats in community and used to play daily. Now they prefer to watch cats on Tiktok.

Disciplining kids at young age is important. Don't worry abt guilt feeling or being a hypocrite. We have come this far after doing a lot. When they get a little old, you can explain this to them if they question.

Give what they want, but limited time. 1-2 days a week no video games, etc. Ask them to pick dates.

when we see kids who are smart and do a lot of cool things, our tendency is to look down on kids or ourselves (our pempakam or not able to push kids do kool things). Don't worry abt it. Don't push your kids in that direction. If possible say a couple of nice things your kids do.

India's best young player is from Hyderabad - Arjun Erigaisi.. He unfortunately lost to Pragg in the quarterfinals. Traditionally even Andhra had and still has strong players like Pendalya Harikrishna, Koneru Humpy etc.

Chennai has more players now because of some very active clubs in Chennai, plus the influence of Vishwanathan Anand, who mentors these kids now and then. Many players from outside Chennai like Nihal Sarin - my fav Indian young player currently also trained extensively in Chennai.

There's not much money in Chess. modern competitive chess is almost like rote learning maths for kids.. Kids that spend a lot of time learning 100s of openings, couple dozen gambits, and practice endgames extensively have a straight forward advantage at the lower level.

its likely that Chennai produces such loner kids who can spend a lot of time on Chess. Other than that, there's no special reason. Plus the success of Anand, and consequently success of kids like Pragg, Gukesh means that many kids in Chennai want to take up the sport. I think Indian top 10 has atleast 5 kids from Chennai.. top 100 lo kooda around 30-40 untaru sure ga..

Its not that hard to be good at chess. like all sports, it needs a lot of training and patience. To be great, you have to completely dedicate your life to it, for very less returns in the form of compensation. perhaps Chennai kids are okay to live a life of misery, compared to kids from elsewhere.

not just chess, competitive sports (including athletics) is an embarrassing reminder of our ape ancestry and should not be taken seriously in the first place.

I'm ashamed that I follow some sports some of the times, and I try to do my best to not take them seriously. But I fail.

hope I evolve from being a listless ape soon and look down on all sportsmen.
