We have a UI developer (only UI resource in our team) who has two kids - one a 2 yr old and the other 8 yr old special needs kid.. She works so hard and manages everything so well.. we hear her kids many times in the background asking for something or the other… and she sometimes take breaks for school pickups or therapies or doctor appointments..  due to lack of focus sometimes, she has to redo few things too.. but no one complains and we are very accommodating of her as we know that she works hard.. she finishes her work on time even though it requires her to work late nights many times..

Handling kids and work is not easy.. but again, we don’t want women to use this as an excuse.. if they do, sooner or later people will lose their patience..

We all need to have empathy. I always appreciate a person why works hard and is sincere. Slippage of work happens once in a while and its OK as long as it does not become a habit.

It need not be a woman.. can be a man too.. if someone is going through some issues, it is fine to accommodate him.. but our desis misuse this a lot!!

Agree. I am emphatic person and have picked up some things from my mentor. If someone is not performing well, I ask if everything at home is fine, what's going on (if they can share), if there is any way I can help and try to take critical work away from them. Sometimes its a new born in the family, divorce, family disputes/issues, health issues and depression in general.
