For those who do not understand TN polticians , DMK has always blamed casteism and all other social ills on Brahmins and north Indian Vedic hinduism. 

Tamil hindus usually pray to folk deities like Amman , murugan , Venkateswara swamy over Rama , Vishnu , etc. So this abuse of sanatha Dharma is mostly perceived as a attack on Brahmins not Hinduism itself by other castes

Sanathana Dharma is seen as a tool of Brahmins and north Indian hegemony , so there won't be any backlash

I am not defending DMK , just explaining from their perspective and why it is possible to say such stuff without any backlash 

Even in states with higher Christian , muslims population such stuff is not loudly said by polticians
