Generational cohorts are typically characterized by significant events, shifts in culture, and technological advancements that shape the attitudes, values, and experiences of individuals born within specific timeframes. While there's no universally agreed-upon range for each generation, here's a general list of generational cohorts from 1900 to the 21st century:

  1. The Lost Generation (also known as the G.I. Generation)

    • Timeframe: Born approximately between 1883 and 1900.
    • Notable Events: Many from this generation fought in World War I.
    • Mindset: Shaped by the devastation of World War I, there was a sense of disillusionment. This generation questioned traditional values, leading to profound cultural and literary shifts.
  2. The Greatest Generation (also known as the G.I. Generation)

    • Timeframe: Born approximately between 1901 and 1927.
    • Notable Events: Experienced the Great Depression and fought in World War II.
    • Mindset: They're known for their strong sense of duty, resilience, and sacrifice. They believe in hard work, commitment to family, and loyalty to their country.
  3. The Silent Generation (also known as Traditionalists)

    • Timeframe: Born approximately between 1928 and 1945.
    • Notable Events: Grew up during the Great Depression, World War II, and the Cold War's beginnings.
    • Mindset: Often seen as conventional and disciplined. They value stability, respect for authority, and are known for their strong sense of loyalty.
  4. Baby Boomers

    • Timeframe: Born approximately between 1946 and 1964.
    • Notable Events: Witnessed the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, the space race, and the rise of feminism.
    • Mindset: Optimistic and competitive. Boomers are often seen as valuing personal growth, hard work, and community involvement.
  5. Generation X (Gen X)

    • Timeframe: Born approximately between 1965 and 1980.
    • Notable Events: Lived through the end of the Cold War, the AIDS epidemic, and the rise of personal computers.
    • Mindset: Independent, resourceful, and skeptical. Gen X values work-life balance and is often seen as the first generation to champion this concept.
  6. Millennials (Generation Y)

    • Timeframe: Born approximately between 1981 and 1996.
    • Notable Events: Grew up during the digital revolution, witnessed 9/11, and entered the workforce during the Great Recession.
    • Mindset: Value experiences over possessions, socially conscious, and desire transparency and authenticity in their engagements. They're also known for their entrepreneurial spirit.
  7. Generation Z (Gen Z)

    • Timeframe: Born approximately between 1997 and 2012.
    • Notable Events: Born into a digital world and witness to significant societal shifts.
    • Mindset: Digital natives who value individual expression, inclusivity, and adaptability. They're pragmatic and financially driven, often concerned about the future due to global events like climate change and economic uncertainties.
  8. Generation Alpha

    • Timeframe: Born approximately starting from 2013 and expected to end around 2025.
    • Notable Events: Born entirely in the 21st century and growing up in a world shaped by technological advancements.
    • Mindset: Though still young and developing, this generation is expected to be the most technologically immersed and globally connected.
  9. Generation Beta

    • Timeframe: Predicted to start from 2026.
    • Notable Events: Predictions are ongoing, but they will be shaped by the world's events, technological advancements, and societal shifts that occur from the mid-2020s onward.

As of my last update in January 2022, predictions and characteristics for generations beyond Alpha and Beta are speculative. It's also worth noting that the exact start and end years for these generations can vary depending on the source. Different regions or countries might also have unique cultural or societal events that further segment these generational definitions.
