Not SOS!

Hi all,

I live in USA, and my father who lives in India is 76 years old, retired professor from an Indian University. He is also a cancer patient so not in best of his health.

Few weeks ago, someone claiming to be an “ex-student” of my father visited my home in U.P. and told my father that he lost all his luggage, phone and wallet in a mishap while on a trip from chicago to india and urgently needed some monetary help.

Strangely this person also gave a visiting card to my father which claimed that he is now an Associate Professor at Univ. of Chicago. The visiting card had his name as Dr. N. Kumar ( no first name or last name) and the contact address , email and ph# are from all univ of chicago info center. My father trusted him and gave him a couple of thousand rupees. The person also knew a few members from the university and appeared to be grateful.

I got to know about this v recently and feel that my father was scammed!

However, the reason i am scared is that this person walked into my home where both my parents (>70 yrs old) live.

My question is: what are my options to notify this to law enforcement authorities? FIR at local police station or is there something i can do online from USA to report this?

Considering Univ of chicago’s name was misused (visiting card has univ of chicago name) is there anything which can be done through them? I am sure this person is going around and fooling other retired members from the university as he smartly invested in and created a visiting card!
