If you plan to keep the car long term(5+ years) , please do not buy a Hyundai/Kia four cylinder engine cars because they are known for engine issues

Honda civic will be perfect for your needs , it's also a decently sized car now. It's almost as big as older gen Camry,accord. 

Second hand Accord , Camry, Avalon , Lexus ES are also good choices but it takes a lot of time and patience to find a good deal
