Honda civic will be perfect for your needs , it's also a decently sized car now. It's almost as big as older gen Camry,accord. 

Second hand Accord , Camry, Avalon , Lexus ES are also good choices but it takes a lot of time and patience to find a good deal

 

Good to know. Cars tho problem is knowing when it is a deal. There are too many options on addons.

My suggestion is, instead of Sedan .. atleast go with mini suv .. like Hyundai Tuscon, Ford Escape, Subaru crosstrek .. VW Taos ..

if it is for wife .. and 1st time driver aithe .. my strict recommendation is Ford escape or Subaru Crosstrek .. within ur budget lo ochestundi .. they will like if they are driving at some height

Both are old / outdated and worse than Honda civic in every way 

The only reason to get them is slightly higher seat height  and ground clearance
