After my recent post discussing the differences between undocumented immigrants and legal immigrants, it becomes evident that a significant issue lies within the Indian community, particularly among those who have already obtained Green Cards and citizenship. It appears that some of them advocate for the struggles of undocumented immigrants while opposing the efforts of legal immigrants like ourselves.
This situation may be seen as contradictory. Legal Dreamers who age out of their immigration status are often required to leave the country voluntarily. In the unfortunate event of an H1B visa holder’s spouse passing away, the entire family may face the prospect of returning to their home country.
We, as legal immigrants, faithfully fulfill our responsibilities by paying taxes, adhering to regulations, and contributing to social security. However, we are confronted with delays in obtaining Employment Authorization Documents (EAD), while some undocumented immigrants can obtain them almost immediately upon their arrival in the USA

  • I think it’s not fair to people who come here legally and other people just lie to get GC when even the immigration system knows it’s a lie. Whoever seeks asylum shouldn’t be allowed to go back to their country ever again and see the decline in such cases.

I welcome anyone who comes legally. I object to the fact that usually it is only skilled highly educated people who get the opportunity to immigrate to the United States. I think a janitor, Plumber, auto mechanic, etc. deserves just as much opportunity…

  • It has nothing to do with immigration status (aka green card/ citizenship ) but empathy and a bit of common sense that comes from staying close to the ground and reality.

Immigrants are always on their own. I am also in the camp waiting for GC but I don’t expect citizens or current GC holders to care about our interest.
What is the incentive for anybody to do anything for the immigrant community?

Your assumption that anyone that holds an opinion other than yours is a citizen/GC holder is ignorant. If some of us can empathize better than you doesn't automatically give us the chance to be a citizen; although that does sound amazing.

H1-B is a temporary work visa. It has expiry. People make permanent life decision based on temporary visa and get disappointed. This is the risk we chose to take.
Illegal immigration is illegal , if caught they should be deported and banned. It is the risk they take.

Most of us who migrate know about visas, gcs, delays etc. but write a lot as if it is a surprise; instead patiently follow the rules and get it in the order of priority. Undocumented one is ongoing similarly, just don't worry on it.

You lack empathy for undocumented immigrants, (who, according to you, are apparently issued EADs immediately upon arrival!!!!) but want empathy for people who have good jobs but a long GC wait.
If you don't really have any empathy for others, then wh…

Zoheb Vacheri Well, a lot of asylum seekers from India are granted EAD after 3 months. So yeah, EAD is granted immediately, yes!

there are multiple bigger issues with categorization of illegal immigrants.

    - people who are brought in to do hard labor, as farms cannot get enough of them legally…

After one gets GC or further when they opt for citizenship, the priorities and interests change. Its pure human behavior just like most of us forget the difficult days we had in past and behave in same way like others which we didn’t like during our difficult days.

Indians have never been vocal about their issues on immigration.
They will grind loke slaves in middle east but will ignore like it's a favor for them. Bullywood also will keep ignoring it like it never happened.…

Real problem comes when these legal immigrants don't get any help or support from Indian Communities or anywhere else & they endup struggling & stranded in nowhere. Real difficult situation to be in.

Indian H1b holders are Golden geese for USCIS, in terms of paying for extension fee, stamping fee, etc
