Why does India’s metropolitan cities have less MP/MLA seats than other metro cities around the world

Other metro cities have greater number of MP/MLA seats for their metro cities because of high population. Even mid tier cities get 5-8 MP seats.

However India distribution of seats for cities is strange. Cities with over 2 million population like Jaipur, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad have only 2-4 MP seats. Even some big cities like Kochi are limited to one MP seat that covers entire district. MLA seat distribution probably worse for all our cities.

It was last divided on the 2001 census, for the 2009 elections.
Andhra had 27, TG 15. After rebalance in 2009 it is 25, 17.
Next should happen on the 2021 census for the 2029 election, the entire south India will lose seats.

Haven’t looked at delimitation plans? Will metro cities all around India get more seats? Population has really exploded in cities in last decade. Majority of migration is rural to urban. I think it’s fair metro cities get large appropriate number of seats.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare with metro cities of other countries. Mana degara density of population chana ekuva…

Delhi has 7 MP’s, Mumbai has 6…Hyd has 4…I think it’s fair representation.

India la overall population ae kakunda local demographics batti kuda constituency limits designed…its actually MLA constituency limits decide the MP limit so local population distribution mida MP seat limit ayitadi, for 7 MLA seats grouped as one MP seat. Ie seats degara borders atu itu avadam to balance the population but overall limit aithe ide

Yes, when delimitation happens it will increase Hyd area got two new seats in 2009 which Andhra area lost, last time state-wise seats were not changed. AP 42-->42 (Base is 1975 population I guess for no of seats each state when they delimited in 2009)
this time it will change, this time the rebalance on the entire country.
