ALAMEDA, CA — A child became ill after eating THC-infused candy — the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana — received at a PTA-sponsored trunk-or-treat event on Sunday at Amelia Earhart Elementary School in Alameda, according to the Alameda Police Department and Alameda Unified School District.

The child's family sought immediate medical attention for the child, who is recovering, according to school district superintendent Pasquale Scuderi.

The school district issued a warning to parents to check the treat bags brought home by their kids, and multiple parents report also finding the candy.

The school district is cooperating with police in an investigation into the source of the candy.

With Halloween here, the police department released photos of multiple weed-infused candies to show parents how they mimic popular name-brand candies.

The Alameda Police Department urges parents and caregivers to examine all candy received trick-or-treating before their children eat anything.

Here is a complete list of recommendations from the police department:

  • Check your child’s candy: Look for candies that have unusual packaging, labeling, closely resemble well-known brands, or appear to be tampered with.
  • Educate children: Speak with children about the importance of not consuming candies that are not in their original, sealed packaging and have not been thoroughly examined by a caregiver.
  • Err on the side of caution: If you have any doubts about the authenticity of the candy, discard it.
  • Report suspicious candy: If you come across candy that raises concerns, contact the Police Department right away.
  • Thanks 1

That's a concerning incident. Safety is crucial, especially during events like Trunk-or-Treat. It's a reminder for everyone to be extra vigilant about what's being shared, especially when it comes to edibles.  BTW, have you ever explored using bubbler pipes? They're a safer option for responsible cannabis use, providing a more controlled and enjoyable experience compared to some edibles. It's all about finding ways to enjoy without any unexpected mishaps. Stay safe out there!
