AFAIK, you wont get billing rates like how you do in us. Can someone throw light on UK salaries?

We used to get 500-600 GBP per day, Outside IR35 contracts with which we could retain up to 80% of the billed amount which used to come to around 8k-10k GBP per month --> Thats on an average far higher than average salaries of USA.

But things changed after introducing (in fact forcing) every one to go through Inside IR35, with which you will pay at least 40-45% as tax, which means with £600-£700 per day means you will get only £350-£370 per day as Net. That means with 20 days per month, your net will not be more than £7,000. Remember you will be forced to go furlough during Christmas, Plus your personal holidays. All this means, your average monthly earning will be around £6,000

To avoid problems with Inside IR35 roles, you will have to take Permanent roles which will pay £90,000 - £120,000, which means your net will be between £5000-£6000 after all deductions. Of course there would be some PF contribution.

At present: Total IT market gone bad. Some people still doing 2 jobs but employers are asking 1 or 2 days onsite. So many confined to 1 job.

But advantage is: Both husband and wife can work right from the day 1.

Pros:

Nearer to India ( 10 hrs direct flight to HYD)

Can get PR after 5 years on Tier 2 visa and citizenship a year after PR

Less crime rate compared to US . No guns

Cons:

Small IT market

Low salaries

Higher taxes (40-45%)

Health care( NHS has a huge black log and there's a huge waiting time for appointments. You will get private health care from your employer but you can't directly go to a private hospital. You need a reference from NHS GP then call that health care provider to get pre authorization code and then book an appointment with private doctors. You can get appointments in a day or 2)

Housing problem ( house rents and costs are higher and small houses)

You will have to move based on where your kids get a school admission.

Cost of living: groceries, electronics cars everything expensive

There are exclusive private hospital options but they are very expensive. But yes, so many problems with NHS. You can book a Friday evening flight to Hyd and then go to Kukatpally, get your surgeries done and return back on flight to UK. This is much cheaper than paying for exclusive private insurances in UK

House rents --> Surely they will be proportionately higher than  your income.

Schools and education is in big mess just because of over thinking by Indian parents on one hand and Islamification of UK by Pakis and Banglas on the other hand.

Cost of living: Used to be dirt cheap but with ongoing inflation rise, all messed up.

At present, no IT roles for people on Visa (what ever Visa).

So definitely a big NO for IT people, at least for next one year.

People who look for non-IT jobs always have great life, compared to their life in India. Like they can own hotels, convenience stores, Fuel stations, food courts, take -aways, mini super markets, what not everything.

I have one Tier-2 Visa sponsor company with 10 people. Some of them could not get straight IT job contracts, so doing some odd jobs. But their qualified spouses do decent jobs and earning good.

Some 4 of them moved back to India as they lost jobs in last 6 months.

Silverlining: When ever there was a recession, the IT job market bounces back more rigorously. Thats the hope.

No.  Do not know which visa you were in when you stayed in UK. But it was better than US till few years ago. Things started messing up since an year.

Where else in the World can both wife and husband work on a single visa and do Outside IR35 contracts? A lot of telugu couples were earning together around 15k doing testing jobs, of course before Covid.

And post-Covid boom their earnings increased even more with both doing WFH and multiple jobs.

10k GBP is definitely not a pathetic life. Even with such high interest rates I pay 2,000 GBP for house EMI and another 2k towards expenses.

Plus income from rental houses and partnership on convenience stores, all not very difficult.

A good conditioned BMW and Mercedes Benz like brands can be grabbed with just 5k GBP. Where else will you get mate?

But definitely for people working for hourly paid jobs and getting paid 5£ per hour, UK is a pathetic place.

Groceries are not that expensive when i lived in UK.. everything else i agree with you..

Also most of job market is surrounded in and around london and south-east... rest of UK it not really worth to settle
